Masquerade

Times Read: 1+

Excerpt: "Schuyler Van Alen wants an explanation for the mysterious deaths of young vampires. With her best friend, Oliver, Schuyler travels to Italy in the hope of finding the one man who can help--her grandfather. Meanwhile, back in New York, preparations are feverishly under way for the Four Hundred Ball, an exclusive gala hosted by the city's wealthy, powerful, and unhuman--a true Blue Blood affair.

But it's at the after-party, a masquerade ball thrown by the cunning Mimi Force, that the real danger lurks. Hidden behind the masks is a revelation that will forever change the course of a young vampire's destiny.

Rich with glamour, attitude, and vampire lore, this second installment in the Blue Bloods saga will leave readers thirsting for more."

My Rambles: Kingsley was obviously going to be a problem the moment he arrived. I don't like how there isn't much depth to the characters. Mimi is cruel, self-centered, all the bad preppy rich girl tropes for no authentic reason other than to be the "mundane" opposing force (hehe) to Schuyler. Like yes they all have a multitude of backgrounds but still. Lawrence doesn't even feel real sometimes, outside of being a plot device and that makes me sad. I want more depth to the characters....

I still hate the fashion aspect but it was easier to get through this go around. I could see more of the clothing without looking anything up (which I haven't done cause I don't actually care to that extent but meh). I see why these books are so short. I know it's 300 pages but it feels like so much less. The way everything is rushed gives the mental appearance of being less substantial.
